- 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. – Poster Contest Reception in the main auditorium of the administrative building. For the last few months children from the local schools have been doing drawings of endangered species, and have submitted them for review. All the submitted drawings will be hung in the auditorium for viewing, and winners in the various categories will be displayed. Come congratulate the kids for their work, meet the teachers and parents.
- Snacks and drinks for all
- Short presentation by Fish and Wildlife staff – “Why Saving Endangered Species is Important”
- Pictures will be taken with the kids and families
- “In Search of the California Clapper Rail” – an educational program to learn about one of the most rare and endangered birds that calls the refuge home. To be held in the Newark Slough Learning Center. Program will include a walking tour into the refuge to learn about their home, and perhaps get a glimpse of a Clapper Rail.

- Two programs, both identical, 1:30 and 2:30 – come and bring the family
- Refuge facilities tours – The refuge complex has just completed re-modeling it main administrative building, and adding an education building. The staff will take you through the facility, and then there will be two lectures on refuge functions:
- 2 p.m. - The biology of a tidal marsh and the San Francisco bay region
- 3 p.m. - Refuge management and restoration work at the refuge
- Refuge Air Boat will be on display and a biologist will be available to talk about how the air boat is used relative to Clapper Rail monitoring and recovery. You’ll be able to have you picture taken on the boat, the refuge staff will develop the pictures and you can take it home. A memento of the day!
