| Endangered Species art contest reception, visitor center opening, talks on endangered species and tours of the refuge.
For the past three months students in the four surrounding cities near the refuge have worked to complete drawings of endangered species, and all of these pictures will be displayed, and the winners in each grade class will be chosen. Refuge staff will host a reception beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the main meeting room. Staff will also be doing tours of the facilities and the local wetlands, along with doing three different lectures on why the refuge is so important to the community and threatened species. The refuge staff uses an air boat to do much of the research on endangered species using the wetlands, and this boat will be on display and a photographer available to take pictures, which will then be printed and given to the visitors. Visitors can see the complex and wetlands, learn what bay wetlands restoration is, why it is important, and possibly see some of the threatened birds and wildlife on the refuge. |
