Endangered Species Day at Tanque Verde Elementary School
Friday, May 21 2010, 11:30am - 2:30pm

Marit Alanen, a field biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, will be at our school to help us acknowledge this important day and to recognize our TVES art contest finalist and four semifinalists for the Endangered Species Day National Art Contest.

From 11:30-1:30 Marit will be set up outside the MPR in the shaded ramada area.  She’ll have Endangered Species Day tables with information and hands on items for the students to stop by after their lunch periods.  Marit will have live desert tortoises, an assortment of confiscated products made from endangered species parts, Endangered Species posters (for each classroom), and “Let’s Go Outside” giveaway handouts.

Mrs. Sanchez’ 2nd grade class will have a special presentation at 12:30 p.m.   honoring art contest semifinalists Ella Radnothy and Sophia Rojas.  This will take place at the ramada area.

All 4th grade classes will have a special 20-minute presentation on Endangered and Threatened species at 1:00 p.m. at the ramada.

Finally, all 6th grade classes will meet in the science lab at 1:30 p.m. Marit will first honor art contest finalist Josie Maxwell and semifinalists Hannah Murphy and Tino Watson.  Josie will also be honored as a first place winner in the Junior Duck Stamp art contest.  Marit will then give a program on Endangered Species as part of the 6th grade science lab.

Teachers, please encourage your students to stop by the Endangered Species Day area between 11:30-1:30.  This is a great opportunity for our students to learn more about this special day.
